3:42p Not how I like to start a day, weekend, or trip:
As I was leaving home today to start on my drive to Sacramento, I noticed that the turquoise minivan of the very friendly couple who recently moved into one of the bedrooms of my house (or "the house my bedroom is parked outside of") had a bumper sticker.
A Pro-8, "restore marriage" bumper sticker.
It's probably a good thing that I saw this while leaving, giving me a few days to cool down rather than knocking on their door and unloading a whole stream of multilingual abuse -- but that's not the kind of thing I want setting the pace for my trip. It pisses me off even more than usual because this was right outside the place I live. I share a kitchen with these people.

4:36p meh
I was gonna repost the dragons after I'd gotten a rare egg, but that doesn't seem likely to happen any time soon (even when I'm staying up for the 3 am EDT egg spawning).

I seem to have lost my love for movies somewhere along the way.
Rather, I seem to have lost my love for movies for their own sake. The few times I've had a chance to watch a movie with others recently, I still enjoyed it. But I can't seem to care enough to watch a movie on my own anymore. Nevermind that when I worked at a video store I was watching an average of about 5 movies a week.
A couple weeks ago I threw on Blade Runner, and barely got halfway through it. And I fucking love Blade Runner.
Choke came out several weeks ago, and I've made absolutely no effort to see it. And I thought the book was great.
I don't even know what movies are coming out. I don't know what movies are playing.
Actually, come to think of it, it's not just movies. There are a handful of shows on TV I even care enough to try to watch regularly, and the days of running a TV show marathon are completely gone. I don't care what I'm watching, after a couple of episodes, I want to do something else.
I find myself caring less and less about video games as well.
I wonder how much of this is attributable to that strange internal alchemy that determines my tastes, and how much of this is attributable to my ongoing sadness.
Though most of this is fairly long term, which is a definite point in favor of internal alchemy. The only area that is debatable is that of TV. While over the past several years my TV habits have dropped to almost nil, the few shows I like I've liked a lot. My current apathy towards them I suspect has more to do with my current apathy towards everything, and will accordingly pass in time, leaving me free to watch Buffy and House and It's always Sunny... like I used to.

3:39p ?
I've had to disable comments on this InsaneJournal post because I kept getting spam comments. Not even comments selling anything, just a bunch of comments from inactive journals that didn't make logical or grammatical sense (the comments, not the journals). Just this one post, just on IJ, but every couple weeks I get another one in my email, and I've had it with them. No more.

2:45p Real Life, Politics and TV
- Conn. high court rules gay couples can marry. While this is another milestone, I'd like to remind everyone (and especially same gender couples) that the marriages are not legal for the federal government.
In 1996, Congress passed and Bill Clinton signed the Defense of Marriage Act, making same sex marriages illegal. Several practical consequences: 1. Presumably they aren't covered by the 'full faith and credit' clause of the Constitution, which means your perfectly legal marriage doesn't have to be recognized by other states (like Virginia). 2. You can't file your federal taxes as a married couple 3. If your spouse s not a legal permanent resident or citizen, s/he can't get a green card through your marriage.
Having said that, I have faith in the judiciary, even a conservative one. I'm hoping that sooner or later someone challenges the Defence of Marriage Act.
- The weather is insane. It's so hot that there are roses in my garden. I guess the hot temperature after the cold ones have confused my plants.
- My sister is insane. I figured I'd throw that one in.
- I've stopped reading about the elections and the candidates; I've reached saturation point. However, I'm addicted to the market, which is weird, because all my investments are solid local, state and federal insured bonds, but I know that NYC will feel the repercussions a lot more than the rest of the world.
- Grey's Anatomy is so much better this season. Even Meredith stopped being whiny. I hope this trend continues, because I love the show when she's not bitching about life, love, and parents.
- Eleventh Hour - I watched this instead of Life on Mars, because I couldn't deal with a third version of the pilot. I really like the mix of science and police work in Eleventh Hour. I love the fact that there is really little chance for the 2 main characters to be romantically involved. I really like my cop shows to be cop shows (NCIS and CSI) and not turn into soaps.
- Sons of Anarchy - speaking of shows turning into soap, that's not the case with SOA. Way too much violence and realism for that.
- Supernatural - After the last episode, I came to a few conclusions: 1. I need to stop analyzing this show. The writing is like JKR's, it's got a great premises, but there are holes as big as the Grand Canyon. If you start looking too closely, you'll see the darkness and won't enjoy the whole. The opposite is true too: I need to stop reading all the squee, because it makes me wonder if I'm watching the same show as other people. 2. I find Dean to be sexier. I don't mean Jensen v. Jared. I mean Dean and for me they are two different people. 3. Despite #2, I see things from Sam's pov. I will always identify with him. He's the logical one, the socially adept one, the one who knows about right and wrong 'according to society'. I understand him, and I'm much more willing to justify what he does as opposed to what Dean does. I admit I was very pissed with Dean last night. 4. Sam is not emo!kid. Seriously! At least not after season 1. I've seen this over and over on my flist, but Sam doesn't really talk, not when he's made a decision. Sam turns emo and 'wants to talk' when he wants to convince someone to do things his way. People don't see the difference, Dean doesn't see the difference, but it's so obvious to me, perhaps because I do the same thing. If Sam thinks something needs to be done, he will do it and either lie about it or tell people to fuck off. If Sam wants Dean to do something, then he'll come up with 'We need to talk'. That's not emo, that's a brilliant lawyer in the making. 5. I will ALWAYS like Sam and Dean more than Jared and Jensen. I'm in fandom for the characters.
